Coffee Spotlight: Crafting a Taste Experience to Match Px's Benefits

Our Original Goals for Px Coffee

We created Px Coffee to revolutionize the caffeine experience and elevate how you fuel your mind and body. This passion project was born out of frustration with caffeine's side effects and the realization that we could harness what was already within our bodies (Px) to transform coffee drinking.

But fixing caffeine's drawbacks wasn't our only goal. From day one, we knew that if Px Coffee didn't meet taste expectations, it wouldn't succeed.

We're currently in the third wave of coffee, an era characterized by a greater focus on coffee quality, nuanced flavor, sustainability, supply chain transparency, and innovative brewing methods.

A primary goal in our development process became clear: Px Coffee must taste as good as it makes you feel—no exceptions.

Taking the Caffeine Out of Coffee

Px Coffee is made by starting with a specialty-grade Colombian coffee, which is decaffeinated using the Sugarcane process before being infused with Px.

Decaffeination methods have rapidly improved in recent years, making high-quality, caffeine-free coffee more accessible than ever. Consumers now have options beyond the previously dominant decaffeination method, which used methylene chloride, a solvent with notable health concerns.

The Sugarcane method is safe, environmentally friendly, and preserves the flavor exceptionally well.

Focus on Sustainability

When we began exploring coffee-importing partners, we were committed to ensuring our coffee not only met high taste standards but was also cultivated using sustainable harvesting practices, with a fair and equitable price paid to the farmers.

We’re proud to work with partners who deploy a robust model of relationship coffee, focusing on creating transparent relationships that add value throughout the supply chain while fostering greater sustainability.

Many coffee communities in rural Colombia lack access to safe, clean drinking water. We’re proud that your purchase of Px Coffee contributes to building water filtration systems in these farming communities through The Farmgate Initiativea project implemented by Local Partners, a Colombia-based non-profit organization developing sustainable initiatives for the coffee sector.

Making the First Px Coffee

Sustainable procurement and processing were essential in selecting our beans, but we primarily chose this coffee for its exceptional taste and broad appeal.

From the beginning, we set out to create a coffee that appeals to both refined palates and those seeking a more everyday brew. Understanding that caffeine affects everyone differently, we designed our brew to be smooth and enjoyable for all, no matter your taste preferences.

We're proud to say that our medium roast, launched as our version 1, remains our top-selling product today. It offers a bright flavor profile, with traditional notes of chocolate and brown sugar, delivering the perfect balance of complexity and approachability.

In response to customer feedback, we recently introduced a dark roast, which has already received great reviews. Roasting the beans a bit longer brings out bold dark chocolate and toasted marshmallow flavors, while preserving the beans' integrity. You’ll also notice rich, nutty undertones in this full-bodied roast.

During production, our National Science Foundation-backed scientists infuse Px into the beans, giving you cognitive health and wellness benefits without compromising the taste or brewing experience you love.

Winning Best New Product

Creating Px Coffee was a significant challenge, but we knew gaining acceptance from the coffee community and experts would be equally, if not more, challenging.

In February 2023, Rarebird did a quiet launch as we were still scaling Px production to offer our product affordably. In April, we took our coffee to the Specialty Coffee Association Expothe largest coffee event in North America. We submitted our product for consideration in the "Best New Product" competition, which recognizes new products that represent quality and add value to the specialty coffee industry.

As first-time participants, we weren't sure what to expect, but we received a warm reception from attendees and judges alike. With the help of our friends at Ground Control Coffeewe brewed up delicious drip coffee and iced lattes.

We were thrilled and honored to leave the show as winners of the Best New Product competition in the Open Class. This recognition gave us the confidence to pitch Px Coffee to anyone in the coffee world.

Product Expansion & Looking Forward

You may be wondering, where does Px Coffee go from here? First, we aim to continue expanding our product offerings. When you're looking for that pick-me-up, we want you to have a Px Coffee option available in every product type.

This summer, we launched Keurig-compatible pods, and soon, our canned coffee offering will return, which previously ran as a limited-time offer. You may have noticed the recent boom in specialty instant coffee, driven by the demand for quality coffee on the go. Stay tuned as Px Coffee could soon follow suit!
